6/28 Update

Calling all prayer warriors!

The last week has been an amazing week of God blessing Dave and Ginnie. They had all their kids with them for Father's Day and had some of their best friends come stay with them a couple of days. (Thank you Burkett's!)

Dave's shoulder has been healing rapidly which has made his rehab much more effective.

Now on to the PRAYER REQUESTS...

Dave and Ginnie have been told today the Medicare has made the decision that they are being released from TrustPoint on Wednesday. Now, under normal circumstances this would be great news because they are so home sick! But Dave, Ginnie, their PT, and even their doctors all agree that Dave is not ready to go home yet. So.... We will appeal to Medicare tomorrow (tuesday) so we need everyone praying and if anyone is up to it and feels led to do so, fasting. We want to specifically pray that we have favor with Medicare and that Dave will be able to stay longer and work with his physical therapist longer. Now that his shoulder and ribs are healing he is making so much more progress and we don't want the momentum to stop.

We also ask that everyone prays for all of Dave and Ginnies decisions. There is a lot of decisions to be made and sometimes this can be frustrating and scary. Some of the decisions that have to be made are ..what changes to their home need to be made...what vehicle do they need for transportation...will they go straight to Clovis to their home when they are released from TrustPoint...

As you can see there is a lot. It's so good to know that when any of the saints are in need that the Body of Christ goes into action! God has ALL answers. HE IS OUR ANSWER! 1 Peter 5 talks about this very thing....if we have anxieties, cares, we are to cast (throw or dump) them on our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!! Why does He want us to do this??? BECAUSE HE CARES FOR US!! He cares about what happens in Dave and Ginnie's life, down to the minor details.

Again...thank you for your prayers!! Dave and Ginnie loves all of you and thanks you all for going to God on their behalf.

I will do my best to update everyone as we move forward over the next couple of days.

(Also...I would like to encourage everyone that if God gives you any scriptures, specific words, words of encouragement, words of prophecy, please reply to this..remember..God uses His Body (us) to love and encourage one another)

Thank you so much....

6/18 Update

Friends and Family,
Well, it's been 4 weeks today that Dave fell off the roof. It seems that when tragedy hits there are highs and there are also lows. I don't know how people get through times like this without having a relationship with the Lord, it's been the only thing that has got us this far.

Dave and Ginnie just continue to trust God each and every day. Yesterday was a tough day. Dave currently has a urinary tract infection and it seems to just make everything more difficult. It makes therapy more difficult because Dave is tired. Please lift Dave up today in prayer, we are praying fervently for Dave's strength and energy levels to increase. When he is tired it makes for a tough time because he can't take a day off. When you or I are having a bad day we can slow down and even take a day off, Dave has to push through because he cannot skip therapy. God's word promises that when we are weak, HE IS STRONG. This is our prayer.

I was praying for Dave this morning and God reminded me of when Moses was leading his people in battle against the Amalekites and as long as Moses held his staff up high in the air they would win the battle. When Moses would get tired and let his arms fall they would start losing the battle. This is what happens when we are in a hard fought battle, we get tired. What happened next is what I believe we must do for Dave. Aaron and Hur saw that Moses was getting tired so they came alongside Moses and HELD HIS ARMS UP FOR HIM. Moses was too tired to win the battle alone. Sound familiar? It is time that all of us that love Dave come alongside and hold him up, lift him up, and be strong when he is weak. This is a very tough battle that Dave is fighting and he is tired.

We must PRAY. We must ENCOURAGE. We must LOVE.

This is what's it's all about when we are all part of God's family, taking care of each other. We ask that everyone continue to PRAY, PRAY, PRAY, AND ENCOURAGE, ENCOURAGE, ENCOURAGE.

Thank you so much for everything that everyone is doing. Dave and Ginnie appreciate everything more than words can express.

(Please also lift up Ginnie. She hasn't left Dave's side since the accident. She has only slept in a bed one time since the accident. I bring this up just so everyone can join together as one voice and lift up Dave and Ginnie for strength.)

Thank you so much.

6/14 Update

Friends and family,
What an awesome weekend Dave and Ginnie had!! Dave got to leave the hospital for 4 hours on Sunday! A local church in Lubbock offered their brand new wheel chair accessible bus to take Dave wherever he wanted to go! Wow! Just another case of the Body of Christ functioning as one. We can never forget that we are all part of one body and it is so awesome to see believers loving believers.

Dave and Ginnie continue to meditate on Philippians chapter 4. The entire chapter is written to encourage and Dave and Ginnie are so encouraged as they meditate on this. Dave said he is continually praying the scriptures. This is so awesome. When we pray scripture over our lives, situations, challenges, and even tragedy, we are praying God's will and God's desires. And I can tell you that God's will and desires are always GOOD.

That reminds me, we asked Dave if there was anything specific he wanted to be on the blog and he had 2 words: Goodness and Faithfulness. Dave cried as he told us how moment by moment he is amazed at God's goodness and faithfulness. Wow. That's how good our God is! Dave has been through a lot of tough days and weeks and God continually shows and reveals His goodness and faithfulness!! Praise God!! God is ALWAYS GOOD!

We had a conversation this weekend about how sometimes in life we can't control what happens to us. But....We can ALWAYS control how we respond and react to what what happens to us. Daves response to this accident has been to RUN to God. And God is responding by showing His goodness and faithfulness!! Isn't our God awesome?!?!

Thank you for continuing to pray. Your prayers do not ever fall on deaf ears. God hears our prayers and always answers with both, GOODNESS AND FAITHFULNESS!

Dave and Ginnie are so thankful for visiting and praying for them.

I added a pic to the front page of Dave and "Buddy", they hadn't seen each other for 3 weeks and it was an awesome reunion!!

Thank you!!

6/10 Update

Hello Friends and Family!!

Wow, how time flies. Every single day brings with it things to celebrate and also things that are challenges. I don't know how people go through tragedies without a loving and trusting relationship with the Lord. Tragedies don't become easy just because we have a relationship with the Lord but just having that "knowing" that He is right there with us and will never leave us is comfort enough to get through the day.

Dave and Ginnie are continuing to believe God for restoration in Dave's body. One woman that prayed for Dave yesterday prayed that "all nerves will fuse back together". Amen! God created those nerves and He can make them fuse back together, one touch from our God can change any situation no matter how severe.

Therapy is getting tougher and tougher. (good thing Dave is an above average "tough guy") Since we're being told that Dave only has 2-3 more weeks at TrustPoint they are really picking up the intensity of the therapy/rehab process. Some days Dave is very sore, other days he may be just drained of energy. Please pray for energy and the determination to get through these challenging and rigorous therapy sessions.

The Godwins came by again and spent some time encouraging and praying with Dave and Ginnie. They are truly a blessing. There are also consistent visitors from Clovis...you guys are so encouraging!! This reminds me of some scriptures that Trace (Dave and Ginnie's middle son) had sent to me a few days ago, very powerful. It's a little long but well worth the time, I promise.

2 Cor 1:3-12 (The Message)
All praise to the God and Father of our Master, Jesus the Messiah! Father of all mercy! God of all healing counsel!4 He comes alongside us when we go through hard times, and before you know it, he brings us alongside someone else who is going through hard times so that we can be there for that person just as God was there for us.5 We have plenty of hard times that come from following the Messiah, but no more so than the good times of his healing comfort—we get a full measure of that, too.6 When we suffer for Jesus, it works out for your healing and salvation. If we are treated well, given a helping hand and encouraging word, that also works to your benefit, spurring you on, face forward, unflinching. Your hard times are also our hard times.7 When we see that you’re just as willing to endure the hard times as to enjoy the good times, we know you’re going to make it, no doubt about it.8 We don’t want you in the dark, friends, about how hard it was when all this came down on us in Asia province. It was so bad we didn’t think we were going to make it.9 We felt like we’d been sent to death row, that it was all over for us. As it turned out, it was the best thing that could have happened. Instead of trusting in our own strength or wits to get out of it, we were forced to trust God totally—not a bad idea since he’s the God who raises the dead!10 And he did it, rescued us from certain doom. And he’ll do it again, rescuing us as many times as we need rescuing.11 You and your prayers are part of the rescue operation—I don’t want you in the dark about that either. I can see your faces even now, lifted in praise for God’s deliverance of us, a rescue in which your prayers played such a crucial part.12 Now that the worst is over, we’re pleased we can report that we’ve come out of this with conscience and faith intact, and can face the world—and even more importantly, face you with our heads held high. But it wasn’t by any fancy footwork on our part. It was God who kept us focused on him, uncompromised.

This is such an encouraging picture of how God uses us and others to help each other as we go through hard times. It's just like when anyone walks into Dave's room he is smiling and encouraging...every time. He is the one in that "hard time" but he's also the one that is giving joy out left and right because he knows that God is using him in whatever situation he is in. I leave the hospital encouraged and built up every time because Dave is allowing God to work through him even in a very hard time.

Please also pray for Dave and a catheter situation. There was a small issue with his catheter a day or two ago and we need to pray that God will heal his body and heal any and all infection. We have seen God move powerfully in Dave's body so many times already....he and Ginnie thank everyone for their continued prayers and encouragement.

It's so important that we don't lose our passion to pray and trust God for TOTAL restoration and healing in Dave.

Thank you to everyone!!! And KEEP PRAYING!!!!

Confident in God's goodness

I wanted to share a couple of things that's been stirring around in me and hopefully give all of us more things to pray for when we are praying for Dave and Ginnie.

Psalm 27:13,14
I am CONFIDENT I will see the Lord's GOODNESS while I am here in the land of the living. Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.

The word wait here means "to expect". Expecting God's goodness is of utmost importance. We can't just know He's good, we've got to expect His goodness in our lives. The word confident here means "firm".

You know, honestly speaking, some days our confidence in God's goodness is not as high as other days. I was praying about this and I ran across Isaiah 40:28-31

God doesn't come and go. God lasts...He energizes those who get tired, gives fresh strength to dropouts. For even young people tire and drop out, young folk in the prime stumble and fall. But those who wait upon God get fresh strength. They spread their wings and soar like eagles. They run and don't get tired, they walk and don't lag behind. Isaiah 40:28-31

God lasts!! I love that!

When our strength gives out, God's lasts! Why??? BECAUSE HE IS GOOD!!

Yes, there will be very difficult days, even days we may question our confidence. But God always answers us with the same message: "NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME".
Impossibilities are God's specialty. God will always exceed our expectations....because He is good!

Thank you for your prayers!!

6/7 Update

Ok, some really cool things have been happening the last couple of days! God is so good! A lot of times God uses PEOPLE to bless us. Praise God for the Body of Christ!

Ivan and Isaac Godwin came by a couple of nights ago and had on their hearts to pray and encourage Dave and Ginnie. Well this was TOTALLY God because His timing is always perfect and they came at the perfect time! It had been a very hard day and the encouragement that they brought was so awesome! They both took turns laying hands on Dave and praying for him and at one point Ivan sang an anointed worship song. Dave and Ginnie said they could literally feel the presence of God in the room when Ivan was singing! Thank you Jesus! If you don't know who the Godwin's are you can see their testimony at www.isaacgodwin.com and you will see yet another testimony of how awesome our God is!

Dave and Ginnie wanted to share a couple of scriptures with everyone that the Lord has ministered and is ministering to them through.

Philippians 4:13 and 19
v.13 For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.
v.19 And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from His glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.

AMEN!
Notice that it says "which HAVE BEEN given to us"....wow! When we are in Jesus, ALL needs are met. Not in our strength but His!

Thank you for all your prayers....If you want to pray for Dave and aren't sure what to pray or how to pray, go to the last post and look at Sabrina Farmers prayer. We can all come into agreement with that! Thank you Holy Spirit for giving Sabrina the words to pray....that is the cry of our hearts!

6/2 and 6/3 update

Friends and Family,

Wednesday and thursday were great days. Thank you Lord for continuing to be faithful!

Therapy is going great! They are getting really aggressive with his stretching, I have a picture of Dave in his wheelchair and they have his leg stretched straight up in the air! Literally straight up! I don't think I can even do that!

All of Dave's caregivers are so nice! (of course he has his favorites though!) Dave just continues to be a light in that hospital. He's always positive and loving...what an example and inspiration.

Yesterday,(thursday) Dave was fitted for a wheelchair. They measure everything so they can totally customize the chair to fit you best. They will be bringing a couple that fit him to the hospital today to see how Dave likes them. We shall see.

Dave continues to go outside everyday and spend as much time outside as he can. Much better than just sitting indoors, especially with how much Dave loves being outside!

So...we've been having conversations about the following and would love for everyone to be praying and agreeing with Dave through all of this and that Dave and Ginnie will be 100% led by the Lord in this:

Dave and Ginnie, (and probably all of you) are believing God for 100% healing in Dave's body. We're believing that Dave WILL get up and walk again. We know that God is our creator and healer. Jesus took quite a beating and has the stripes on His back so we can be healed...meaning we ARE healed! At the same time as we believe this and know this, there are a lot of things that Dave and Ginnie are having to do to also prepare for being in a wheelchair. (until Dave is 100% healed) So Please pray that we know how to balance the two. (Believing and knowing in Dave being healed, and also doing what all the Dr's and PT's and OT's are telling Dave, which can sometimes conflict with what God's word says.) I'm sure everyone can understand it's a bit of a battle to listen and do what all the Dr's and caregivers are saying but also listen to what God is saying and has said in his word. Please pray that Dave, Ginnie, family, and friends, continue to know that God's word is FINAL say and believe and know it...and at the same time do what needs to be done on the "natural" side of things. (it can be quite a balancing act!)

Here's what we know....GOD IS ALWAYS GOOD!! ALL OF GOD'S THOUGHTS TOWARD US ARE GOOD!!

Thank you for your continued prayers and support!!!!

5/31 and 6/1 Update

Friends and Family,
Dave has had two amazing days in a row!

Yesterday(31st)was a very cool day because Dave's nephew and wife (Ralph and Quanah Bold) got back from Iraq and went straight to TrustPoint to visit Dave. They were so full of faith after being in such a crazy environment for the last 3 weeks! Faith is always contagious! Iron sharpens iron! We had some awesome prayer time with them and know that God is continuing to heal Dave and work in his life in ways we can't even imagine.

Today(1st) was an awesome day! Dave had some intense leg stretching in therapy today, he said it felt awesome and refreshing to have his legs stretched like they did today.

Dave and Ginnie wanted to share a scripture with everyone today:
2 Corinthians 12:9 "My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness." So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.

When we are truly weak, God is most powerful in us. Sometimes when we are weak we think we have to "get tough" or "suck it up", but as Paul states here, this is a PERFECT opportunity to see God in all His strength working in our lives when we are weak. Paul goes on to say "For when I am weak, THEN I am strong."

Praise the Lord!! Our God is so good!

Please keep your prayers coming...GOD IS MOVING!

Sunday Update

Sunday was an AWESOME day for Dave! We had church together as a family in the cafeteria in the hospital. Everyone just took turns sharing what was on their hearts and took turns encouraging Dave and letting him know how much he means to us and how he's impacted each of our lives. It was memories that we'll all take with us forever.

Something that was awesome was Dave read from a daily devotional that he has been reading for a while. It is called "Experiencing God Day by Day" by Henry Blackaby. I also use this devotional and would highly recommend it if you need or want a daily devotional. Anyway, yesterday's devotional was DIVINELY written for just a time as this. It's title is "Faith that Doesn't Ask". I won't go on and on but the bottom line is that it is about seeking the MIRACLE WORKER, NOT THE MIRACLE. We have to be at a place that we are in 100% trust in God that he is in control and know that he can work miracles in the blink of an eye and even if He doesn't we are not moved because we have a KNOWING that God loves us and is 100% in control. (perfect example is Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, when they said "our God is able to deliver us but even if He doesn't we will not serve your god".

We had a wonderful Lord's Day yesterday and we know it was a "faith-builder" for Dave.

Thank you so much for your prayers and support....PLEASE KEEP THEM COMING.

5/29 Update

What an awesome day Saturday was! Dave had an awesome nights sleep Friday night and it led right into having a great day Saturday.

A first!- Dave had his first meal sitting up in his wheel chair! Now this may not seem huge to some but try eating while in bed only halfway sitting up! It's not fun! This also led to another first: we had dinner together last night as a family in the cafeteria! It was so awesome! Dave was able to sit and have a normal meal with his family....this is a huge breakthrough....Thank you Jesus!

Highlight: After Dave went on a stroll yesterday in his chair, he wanted to take a detour when it was time to go back to his room. Dave has an old acquaintance (coworker) that is also in the same hospital. Dave asked to go by his room and when they did, Dave took the time to encourage and lift up this guy. This is so cool! To be in the situation that Dave is in and take the time to "be there" for someone else is just awesome! This is a prime example of Daves heart to love and serve people.

I want to encourage everyone to take the time to celebrate the small things in life. It's very important we celebrate these things with Dave as we gain ground. We're seeing God do some awesome things in Daves life....God is so good!

Thank you SO much for your continued prayers and encouragement!

5/28 Update

Friends and Family,
First order of business....Ginnie would like to personally thank AlL of you who are praying, all of you who have called, and all of you who have come to visit. She is SO thankful to all of you, you have no idea how meaningful it is to her and Dave. THANK YOU!

Well, Dave had another good day today. He is also sleeping well at night. Dave had his first "group" therapy today, it went really well. He also went outside for a while today! Check out the pic on the front of the blog...it totally made his day! For all of you who know Dave, he is definately an "outside" kind of guy.

We are continuing to pray and press in to God each and every day.

Psalm 34:8 Taste and see that the Lord is good.
Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!

I can't get enough of that scripture! When we take a taste of what the Lord has to offer....HE NEVER FAILS...HE IS GOOD EVERY TIME. It should be "normal" for followers of Jesus to "taste" of all of His promises and the result...every time...is we see that the Lord is Good. Wow! Thank you Jesus!

Please continue to pray, pray, pray. HIS WILL BE DONE ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN!!

Be blessed!

5/27 Update

Yea! Dave had a great day! His therapy went great, not easy, but great!

PRAISE: Dave ate three light meals today and his stomach and digestive system was awesome! That is a huge answer to prayer! That was Daves number one prayer request last night and God moved! Thank you for praying!

I ran across a scripture today and want to share with everyone and I'm also having cool conversations with Dave about this. (he is already awesome at this)
Proverbs 27:19 As water reflects your face, so your mind shows what kind of person you are.
The Bible clearly teaches that we are what we think. A person will take on an identity that reflects whatever occupies their mind. Thats why the word speaks so much about having our mind transformed and having the mind of Christ. That being said...it's very important we have a "knowing" that we are whole and healed, that we walk in victory.

I can assure you Dave is filling his mind with Gods word and Gods promises. Please continue to pray as we go deeper and deeper in our trust in God.

Thank you for continuing to encourage Dave every opportunity you might have.

Be blessed!

5/26 Update

Well today was a tough day but thank God when we are weak, HE IS STRONG! Dave began his therapy today and I know I don't have to tell you....it's tough. Dave worked through it and did everything they needed him to do. He is doing so good!

As Dave continues to take the necessary steps in his therapy, we are continuing to trust God to work in Dave's body. We know that what is impossible for man, is always possible for God. Thank you Jesus for what you did for us on the cross!

PRAYER REQUEST: Please pray for Dave's digestive system. He has had quite a tummy ache and really needs lots of prayer in this area. We are believing for total healing in Dave's body from the top of his head to the bottom of his feet and that includes his entire digestive system!

We continue to be thankful for all the family and friends that are praying and encouraging Dave. Thank you!

Please continue to pray for Dave as he begins his rehabilitation.

1 Peter 4:12, Dear friends, don't be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you. Instead, be very glad—for these trials make you partners with Christ in his suffering, so that you will have the wonderful joy of seeing his glory when it is revealed to all the world.

Every time any of us that know the Lord goes through something very difficult, it is very important that we draw near to Christ. I can guarantee you that Dave is drawing near. Please continue praying for Dave and the family that they experience God's love, peace, comfort, and healing as they draw near to Him.

We live to glorify HIM!

Thank you!!

Monday 5/24

Hello Friends and Family!
Well we received some great news today! God is so good! A huge panel of doctors(20) met this morning to decide if Dave has to have surgery on his shoulder and.....he does not!! Praise God! They believe his shoulder blade will heal well without surgery.

A physical therapist and occupational therapist came to visit Dave today. We can't say that Dave just loved this part of the day but they did have him sitting on the side of his bed. All progress is good! Thank you Lord!

PRAYER REQUEST: We interviewed with TrustPoint (the best rehab hospital in Lubbock) to try to get Dave admitted there when he is released from UMC. They should be making a decision within the next day or so and we will let you know. Please pray he gets approved to go to TrustPoint. Prayer is a channel that God has provided so that we can reach heaven and see the things of heaven done on earth.

Proverbs 4:20-22 My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. Don't lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart, for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body.

ENCOURAGEMENT: It's time to be strong and of great courage! In every trial or battle courage and faith are needed in a big way. To live in courage we require encouragement. Thank you for all of your encouragement when you come to see Dave and when you encourage him on this blog. It means the world. Encouragement is eternal!

Daves suite!

Praise God! Dave was released from Surgical ICU this afternoon and got his own room. He is in room 328 here at UMC. Feel free to come by and see Dave, he's loving the encouragement and prayer!

UPDATE

Friends and family,
We want to take this time to update everyone on the status of Dave and also let everyone know where we stand as far as what we're believing for. After Daves fall he was air lifted to Lubbock UMC which is where he is currently at. It looks like he will be here a week or so and then be transferred to a rehab hospital after that.

We first want everyone to know that Dave is doing really well. The foundation that Dave has in his walk with the Lord is showing. He knows that God is with him and because of that, EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE!

When Dave fell it broke his shoulder, 3 ribs, and his back. His back injury also caused quite a bit of damage to his spinal cord. He has already had surgery on his back.

Right now we would ask that everyone pray and believe with us that God is going to completely restore all feeling and movement in Daves lower extremities. We have already seen and experienced God in some awesome ways!

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. We will continue to keep everyone as updated as possible as we see continue to see God work supernaturally in Daves life.

HOPE

"Hope is a precious gift of our salvation. Our only reliable hope is in what we cannot see or control: The outrageous Faithfulness of God. Our responsibility to Him as His children is to study His character so we will know, whithout a doubt, that whatever way he deals with our circumstances in life, it's the right way. Even when things don't work out the way we planned or desired, He is all-knowing, all-loving, the beginning and the ending. Hope is acting on the conviction that despite what we see with the natural eye, God is working in the spiritual realm to accomplish His perfect will in our lives. His hope does not disappoint! God's word declares hope. God's promises proclaim hope. We must think hope. Speak hope. Pray hope. Stand firm on hope. Share hope. In other words get our hopes up. Because hope has been given to us, we can expect the best, even in the worst conditions. PRAISE GOD!!!-Thelma Wells
